Ingredients

  • 4 ounces unsweetened chocolate bitter chocolate without sugar
  • 4 Tablespoons shortening butter works, too
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • pinch of salt
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts optional

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Melt shortening and chocolate together in a saucepan on the stove.
  • When melted and smooth, add sugar and beat well with a wooden spoon.
  • Add vanilla and eggs and beat again.
  • Stir baking powder and salt into flour and add to mixture.
  • If using, mix in nuts.
  • Pour into a 9×13 baking pan and bake for exactly 25 minutes. These are not good if overcooked. **I use a convection oven. I decreased the baking time to 20 minutes and they were perfect**
  • ***Recipe doesn’t call for greasing pan, so I didn’t. They came out fine. ***
