A few weekends ago, the weather finally cooperated, ushering in glorious spring sunshine and temperatures. It was a perfect Sunday, which in our household, means it’s time for our traditional big family dinner. The beautiful weather was a golden opportunity to fire up our Traeger grill, transforming our backyard into a culinary haven. There’s nothing quite like gathering with loved ones, enjoying the fresh air, and letting the smoker work its magic, infusing our food with incredible flavor.

Every Sunday, our home is filled with laughter and delicious aromas as all the kids come over for dinner. My wonderful mother-in-law often joins us, making our family meals even more special. On this particular Sunday, I had a specific recipe swirling in my head – a creative way to incorporate Dorothy Lynch Dressing & Condiment into something truly spectacular.
Like many grill enthusiasts, I adore pork chops. They’re consistently packed with flavor, incredibly versatile, and a fantastic economical choice for feeding a crowd. But how do you take an already great pork chop and make it even better, especially when cooking on a Traeger smoker? The secret, my friends, is to slather it with a homemade barbecue sauce. And not just *any* homemade BBQ sauce. This one gets its unique, irresistible character from Dorothy Lynch!

You might be thinking, “Why would I turn a condiment into another condiment?” While my inner ‘mom comeback’ wants to say, “Because I said so!”, I’ll offer a more satisfying answer: Because it simply *works* beautifully. Dorothy Lynch Dressing & Condiment provides the perfect foundation for an incredible homemade barbecue sauce, offering a depth of flavor that’s hard to replicate from scratch without it. Its unique profile saves you time and effort while delivering a taste that feels truly artisanal.
What Does Dorothy Lynch Taste Like? The Secret Ingredient Revealed
For those unfamiliar with this Nebraska-made gem, understanding the flavor profile of Dorothy Lynch is key to appreciating its magic in this BBQ sauce. We best describe its flavor as a delightful balance of sweet and tangy, with a subtle hint of spice, all encased in a thick and creamy texture. Many people, seeing its vibrant orange-red color, assume it tastes like French dressing. However, nothing could be further from the truth! Where French dressing is typically oil-based, Dorothy Lynch boasts a rich, tomato-based foundation. In essence, it tastes distinctly homemade, embodying a wholesome, comforting flavor that speaks to its Midwestern roots. This makes it an absolutely phenomenal starting point for crafting an amazing, complex, and deeply satisfying homemade barbecue sauce.

Crafting this incredible BBQ sauce is surprisingly simple. You’ll combine Dorothy Lynch with honey, brown sugar, soy sauce, a touch of sriracha for a gentle kick, apple cider vinegar for tang, Worcestershire sauce for umami depth, and fresh minced garlic. Simmering these ingredients in a saucepan allows their flavors to meld beautifully, creating a rich and harmonious sauce. If you prefer a slightly thicker consistency, a small amount of cornstarch dissolved in water can be whisked in during the final minutes of cooking, transforming it into the perfect glossy glaze for your pork chops. This homemade sauce is not just for basting; it’s a star in its own right.

This luscious homemade BBQ sauce is designed to be the star of your pork chops, but don’t limit its use! Beyond basting, I always set aside a little extra to serve on the side, allowing everyone to add more of that incredible flavor to their liking as they eat. Any leftover sauce, if there is any, should be stored promptly in your refrigerator, ready to elevate another meal or snack. It’s fantastic on chicken, ribs, or even as a dip for fries!

For this recipe, we leveraged the power of our Traeger smoker grill to achieve unparalleled flavor and tenderness. Begin by generously seasoning each boneless pork loin chop with salt and freshly ground black pepper on both sides. Prepare your smoker with mesquite pellets; this wood imparts a wonderfully robust and slightly sweet smoky flavor that perfectly complements the pork and the BBQ sauce. Bring the smoker temperature to 375 degrees Fahrenheit and allow it to stabilize for 10 minutes. Once hot, carefully place the seasoned pork chops directly on the smoker grates and let them cook for 15 minutes, allowing that beautiful smoky crust to begin forming.

After the initial 15 minutes, carefully flip the pork chops. Continue smoking them for another 15 minutes on the second side. This ensures even cooking and allows both sides to absorb that delicious smoky essence, contributing to a truly succulent final product.

Now for the moment of truth: the sauce! Generously brush your homemade Dorothy Lynch BBQ sauce over the top of each pork chop. Close the lid of your smoker for 3 minutes to allow the sauce to set and caramelize slightly. Then, flip the chops once more and repeat the basting process on the other side, brushing another liberal layer of sauce. Close the lid for another 3 minutes. This layering technique ensures that every inch of your pork chop is coated in that sticky, sweet, and tangy goodness. Once done, remove them from the grill and let them rest briefly before serving, allowing the juices to redistribute for maximum tenderness.
Our family devoured these glorious pork chops, serving them alongside classic corn on the cob and a crisp, refreshing big salad (naturally dressed with Dorothy Lynch!). Everyone at the table raved about the incredible flavor profile, particularly highlighting the amazing, unique taste that the homemade barbecue sauce imparted. It truly was a dinner to remember, proving that sometimes, the simplest ingredients can lead to the most extraordinary meals.

While we highly recommend the smoky flavor imparted by a Traeger, these boneless pork chops can absolutely be prepared on a regular charcoal or gas grill with equally delicious results. The key to perfect pork chops is monitoring the internal temperature. Always use a meat thermometer and aim for an internal temperature between 145 and 160 degrees Fahrenheit before serving. This ensures your chops are juicy, tender, and perfectly cooked, never dry or tough.

So, who’s ready to experience the incredible flavor of Dorothy’s BBQ Pork Chops? I know I am! This recipe is a guaranteed crowd-pleaser and a testament to the magic of homemade barbecue sauce. Let’s get cooking and create some delicious memories!

Preparing the Pork Chops on a Smoker: Begin by seasoning each boneless pork chop generously on both sides with salt and pepper. Prepare your smoker by loading it with mesquite pellets for a rich, smoky flavor. Preheat the smoker to 375 degrees Fahrenheit and allow it to stabilize at this temperature for 10 minutes. Carefully place the seasoned pork chops on the smoker grates and cook for 15 minutes. Flip the pork chops and continue to smoke for another 15 minutes. Now, generously brush the homemade BBQ sauce onto one side of the pork chops. Close the smoker lid and allow the sauce to set and caramelize for 3 minutes. Flip the chops again and repeat the process, brushing more BBQ sauce on the second side, then closing the lid for another 3 minutes. Remove the perfectly smoked and glazed pork chops from the grill. Serve immediately with extra BBQ sauce on the side for dipping.
