2025: A Personal and Professional Journey

This year presented a slightly different landscape compared to previous ones. Travel became more manageable, highlighted by a meaningful retreat in Mexico, along with cherished moments spent at our lake home in Okoboji. The year seemed to offer a chance for slower moments, familiar places, and deeper reflection. It was precisely what this season called for – a balance of adventure and tranquility.

From a professional perspective, 2025 was a year I’ll never forget. It was a year filled with exciting opportunities, significant milestones, and moments of profound gratitude. It was also a year that tested my resilience and pushed me to grow in ways I never imagined.

Savor It Cookbook by Michaela Kenkel
Savor It Cookbook by Michaela Kenkel

After years of dreaming and months of dedicated behind-the-scenes work, my cookbook, Savor It, officially launched on Valentine’s Day – my favorite holiday and the perfect day to share it with the world. Seeing it available on my website, on Amazon, and now in several retail stores (with more continuing to add it!) has been both humbling and surreal. This cookbook is more than just a collection of recipes; it’s a culmination of my passion for cooking, a celebration of shared meals, and a testament to the power of food to bring people together.

KETV News Interview

This year also presented incredible opportunities for which I am deeply grateful. These experiences allowed me to connect with a wider audience, share my story, and further solidify my commitment to creating and sharing approachable, delicious recipes.

KETV News Interview with Waverle Monroe

I was honored to be interviewed by KETV Newswatch 7 Omaha with Waverle Monroe, where I had the opportunity to share my story, my love of home cooking, and offer a glimpse behind the scenes of An Affair from the Heart. The interview came together quickly, and even though I wasn’t feeling my best that day (thanks to a lingering sinus infection!), I was incredibly grateful for the chance to cook alongside Waverle and make a no-bake cherry dessert from my cookbook, Savor It, while sharing this work with a wider audience. It was a wonderful experience to connect with viewers on a local level and share my passion for food.

Allison Evans Coaching Interview

I also had the opportunity to sit down with Allison Evans Coaching for an online interview. Having the space to talk about my journey, the heart behind my recipes, and the work that goes into building this community was both encouraging and affirming. Allison’s insightful questions helped me to articulate my vision for An Affair from the Heart and to reflect on the importance of connection and community in the world of food blogging.

Milford Magazine Holiday Gift Guide Feature

I was also deeply honored to be included in a local holiday gift guide for Milford Magazine. Seeing Savor It highlighted as a gift idea within my own community was a moment I won’t forget. This recognition felt particularly special because it came from the place I call home.

Each of these experiences served as a powerful reminder of how grateful I am to do what I love and to share it with all of you. Your support fuels my passion and motivates me to continue creating and sharing recipes that bring joy and comfort to your lives.

Our Family in 2025

On a personal note, February brought a difficult goodbye when we lost our sweet Theo. Navigating that loss hasn’t been easy, but Libby has remained my constant companion, and together we’re finding our new normal. The love and support of my family and friends has been invaluable during this challenging time. Theo will always hold a special place in our hearts.

Michaela with her Grandchildren

September brought a beautiful new beginning when our first granddaughter joined our three grandsons. Watching our family grow and gathering everyone around the table whenever we can continues to be one of my greatest joys. Family is at the heart of everything I do, and I cherish every moment we spend together.

Those big Sunday night family dinners keep getting bigger, with my two youngest finding their forever people this year, this mama’s heart is very full. #PartyOfFourteen
